Test The Water

London December 2010 at Upton Park.


We wanted to know about running a food business and were ready to Test The Water. A small beautiful Indian Sweets and Savory Shop in East London was available to occupy. We decided us run this shop to gain some experience in preparing food for commercial use and in dealing customers.

We learned a lot of new things during this time like how and where to buy good and healthy ingredients for our food and how to take account of customers wishes while preparing food. Humaira has introduced new tasty food like Gajar Halva and Kheer Seviyan to the community which was really a runner.


We were selling Aloo ChaatAloo Tikki, Samosa, Samosa Chaat, Dahi Bada, with freshly made Yogurt Mint Chutney, Chili Sauce and Tamarind Sauce.



Humaira and Dimple were very successful in preparing and selling tasty food.

Acton Market

London Summer 2009 Acton Farmer's Market.



Since we have been moved from Germany to the UK in 2008 we were looking for something to learn more about the country and people and concurrently to be busy on the weekends. We drove around to find some kind of markets as we knew from Germany so called 'Flohmarkt' where people sell their used items. Here in the UK these are 'Car boot sale' markets. Every time as we were in such a market and wanted to have some tasty and tangy food we couldn't find anything else as a normal burger van selling burger hot dogs and chips. 

We decided to find a market where we could introduce our traditional Indian  food to the Londoner community. After searching  the web we have found the beautiful Acton Market. I contacted the office and asked for a available stall for us. The market manager advised me that I have to provide a certificate of 'Food safety and Hygiene Level 2 (Catering)' and a certificate of 'Liability Insurance' for Market Trader before we could rent a stall for selling food. Within a week I have done my Food Safety course and have got a one year Insurance certificate. Now we were ready to trade on each Saturday at the Acton Market.

Lamb Seekh Kebab

Hamburg July 2005 by Humaira's bajee and bhaijaan.


A beautiful sunny day perfect for a barbecue.
 
Humaira prepared a mix of lamb mince and chicken meat with traditional spices. I prepared some lamb kebab and chicken tikka on the skewers to have a great barbecue party.

It's me making seekh kebab; some people ask me how do I get the mince keep sticking on the skewer. Actually there is no secret behind just keep your hands moist with water when preparing.
